Mukesh Ambani’s Jio Platforms has made a spectacular entrance into India’s stock market. After attracting record-breaking investor demand and raising ₹30,200 crore through its maiden public offering, the digital giant saw its shares surge more than 27% on its trading debut, marking a major milestone for the company and India’s financial markets.
The listing has given investors a closer look at the value of one of India’s most influential technology businesses. It has also strengthened the position of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, whose ambitious plans for Jio extend far beyond mobile connectivity.
Jio Platforms’ initial public offering (IPO) was nothing short of extraordinary. The company raised ₹30,200 crore (approximately $3.2 billion), making it the biggest-ever IPO in India.
Investor enthusiasm was evident from the very beginning. The offering attracted demand worth approximately ₹7.5 trillion, more than 20 times the size of the shares available. In fact, the IPO was fully subscribed within just two hours on its first day, highlighting the enormous appetite for a stake in the company.
Jio Platforms sold 270 million shares at ₹1,119 apiece, setting the price at the upper end of its indicated range.
The offering attracted participation from millions of individual Indian investors, alongside major global institutional names, including the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, BlackRock and Fidelity. Around 13 million Indian nationals reportedly bought shares, making the IPO a landmark event for retail investor participation as well.
For a company that has transformed India’s telecom landscape over the past decade, the overwhelming response reflects the market’s confidence in Jio’s future growth story.
The excitement surrounding the IPO continued when Jio Platforms began trading on the National Stock Exchange in Mumbai.
The shares initially climbed more than 21.5% before extending their gains to over 27% during trading. The rally pushed Jio Platforms’ market capitalisation to approximately ₹13 trillion ($137 billion).
That valuation made Jio the second-most valuable publicly traded company in India, behind its parent company, Reliance Industries.
The strong debut was a significant moment for Mukesh Ambani’s business empire. It also demonstrated how investors increasingly view Jio not simply as a telecommunications operator, but as a major player in India’s expanding digital economy.
Speaking at the listing ceremony, Akash Ambani, managing director of Jio Platforms and Mukesh Ambani’s eldest son, expressed his gratitude to investors.
“My heart overflows with gratitude,” Akash said, acknowledging the participation of individual and institutional investors from India and overseas. He added that the response had exceeded expectations and broken records across investor categories.
Jio’s journey to becoming one of India’s most valuable companies began in 2016, when it entered the telecommunications market with an aggressive strategy.
By offering free voice calls and extremely affordable mobile data, the company disrupted an industry that had long been dominated by established operators. Its arrival changed consumer expectations, pushed competitors to rethink their pricing strategies and accelerated India’s adoption of mobile internet.
The strategy helped Jio build an enormous customer base. As of June, Jio Platforms had more than 533 million subscribers, making it India’s largest mobile carrier.
But the company’s ambitions have expanded considerably since its telecom launch. It has been building a wider digital ecosystem, positioning itself across connectivity, technology infrastructure and digital services.
Its financial performance also reflects this growth. For the financial year ended March 31, 2026, Jio Platforms reported revenue of approximately ₹1.5 trillion, representing a 14.6% increase. Net profit climbed 15% to ₹300 billion.
These numbers highlight the scale of the business and its ability to generate growth while expanding into new areas.
One of the biggest reasons investors are watching Jio Platforms closely is its future investment strategy.
The company plans to invest approximately $110 billion over the next seven years in new data centre and artificial intelligence initiatives. The investment could play an important role in strengthening India’s digital infrastructure as demand for computing power, cloud services and AI applications continues to grow.
Jio’s ambitions are not limited to building infrastructure. The company wants to make advanced technologies more accessible to ordinary Indians, potentially creating new opportunities for businesses, developers and consumers.
Prashant Biyana, a Mumbai-based analyst at Elara Capital, described Jio Platforms as having evolved from a telecommunications operator into a monetisation-led digital platform.
He highlighted its integrated technology stack and growing digital infrastructure ecosystem as important factors supporting its long-term earnings potential. Elara Capital initiated coverage of the company with a buy rating.
For Akash Ambani, the stock market listing is not the finish line. It is the beginning of another phase of growth.
At the listing ceremony, he outlined an ambitious vision for the next decade, with Jio aiming to bring transformative technologies within reach of millions of Indians.
The company’s focus areas include artificial intelligence, cloud computing, connected devices and satellite connectivity. It also wants to develop digital services that have not yet been imagined.
“Our ambition is a truly digital society, with Jio Platforms at its core,” Akash said.
The statement captures the scale of Jio’s ambitions. The company wants to become an important part of how India communicates, works, accesses information and uses technology in everyday life.
Jio Platforms’ spectacular stock market debut is a landmark moment for India’s IPO market and the country’s technology sector. Its record-breaking fundraising, overwhelming investor demand and strong listing performance have placed the company firmly in the spotlight.
However, the bigger challenge begins now. Investors will be watching whether Jio can maintain its financial momentum, successfully execute its massive investment plans and turn its growing digital ecosystem into sustainable profits.
With more than 533 million subscribers, strong financial performance and an ambitious AI and data centre strategy, Jio Platforms has significant opportunities ahead.
For Mukesh Ambani and the next generation of leadership represented by Akash Ambani, the message is clear: Jio’s next chapter is about much more than connecting people to the internet. It is about helping shape India’s digital future.
